Though Kylie Jenner was the subject of a lip kit controversy and stripped of her title as the world’s youngest self-made billionaire, she continues to be one of the most influential young women in fashion in the world. She has more than 150 million followers on Instagram and was the youngest person ever to be placed on the Forbes Celebrity 100 list. 

The Kardashian-Jenner Clan 

Kylie Jenner is the youngest child of Kris Kardashian and Olympic athlete Caitlyn Jenner. She has one older sister, Kendall, and four older step-siblings -- Khloe, Kim, Kortney, and Rob Kardashian. She also has four older half-siblings on Caitlyn Jenner’s side: Burt, Brandon, Brody, and Casey. 

Kylie was born in 1997 in Los Angeles and appeared on reality television for the first time when she was only ten years old. She attended Sierra Canyon School until 2012 when she became homeschooled. During her stint in private school, she was a cheerleader. She graduated with her diploma in 2015. 

Kylie was called a self-made billionaire, but her fortune is not entirely her own. The Kardashian fame began years before Kylie was born, with a white Bronco, a slow car chase, and an ill-fitting glove. 

The Curious Case of the Kardashians

Few people know that the Kardashians began their lives in the public eye because of the infamous OJ Simpson trial of 1995. The murder case, which divided America and brought up important questions about race, wealth, and celebrity, was a highlight in the career of the Kardashian patriarch, Robert. 

Robert Kardashian was a close friend of OJ Simpson, a football player convicted of murdering his ex-wife Nicole Brown Simpson and her friend Ronald Goldman. The pair met playing football at USC, and Simpson was the best man at Robert and Kris Kardashian’s wedding. When OJ was tried, Robert Kardashian renewed this license to practice law in order to be part of OJ’s “Dream Team” of defense lawyers. Being part of his legal team meant that Kardashian couldn’t testify against OJ. This saved him from sharing vital evidence that may have lead to an indictment. 

In the aftermath of a contentious trial, the Kardashian family earned celebrity status. This was coupled with Kris Kardashian’s skills as the manager of her daughters’ blooming careers in fashion and media. Ten years after the OJ trial, the Kardashians found a quick ride to A-list celebrity status in the form of a reality TV show: Keeping Up the Kardashians. 

Keeping Up with the Kardashians 

The launch of Keeping Up with the Kardashians put the entire Kardashian-Jenner clan in the spotlight, including ten-year-old Kylie. The show chronicled the professional lives of the family and their personal victories and conflicts. It ran until 2012 and prompted half a dozen spin-off shows, including Kortney and Kim Take Miami, Kortney and Kim Take New York, Khloe and Lamar, and more.
